02 Mar Presentation of the Risc_ML Project at the Seminar “The Challenges of Water Resources Monitoring and Management in Altematica’s Anniversary” (Lisbon, 20 March 2020)
The Risc Miño Limia (RISC_ML) project will be presented at the Seminar “The challenges of Water Resources Monitoring and Management in a climate change scenario”, to be held at the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), in Lisbon, on March 20th.
Organized by the Portuguese Agency for the Environment (APA), this seminar aims to bring together the best specialists in water resources to explain and debate the issues of monitoring the quantity and quality of the resource for better management in the face of extreme phenomena.
The main objective of the project is to minimize and evaluate the effects of extreme phenomena (droughts and floods) and climate change on the management of our water bodies and their associated ecosystems, in order to achieve the preparation of a single hydrological and management plan for the entire international river basin district in compliance with the Water Framework Directive and to contribute to the improvement and achievement of their good status.
It should be noted that the international demarcation of the Miño and Limia river basins covers a territory of some 19,600 km2 and has a population of more than one million people, which is the reason for the great importance and repercussion of the European project RISC_Miño Limia, which is part of the INTERREG V-A Spain – Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2014-2020, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund.
