The Council reports favourably on the documents constituting the “Management Plan of the Northern Hydrographic Regions (PGRH-northern)”.

The President of the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation, Francisco Marín, accompanied by the Head of the Hydrological Planning Office, José Alvarez, attended the meeting of the “Council of the Hydrographic Regions of the Northern ARH“,held last Monday 25th June in Porto, in accordance with the firm commitment to cooperation and coordination between both Administrations.

At this meeting, the Conselho considered that the documents constituting the “Management Plan of the Northern Hydrographic Regions (PGRH-northern)” comply with the requirements established in Law 1284/2009 of October 19, 2009, favorably informing their approval.

On the other hand, the dissemination of the experiences shared by both countries in the management of transboundary rivers is having an important impact in different international forums. It is worth mentioning the dissemination carried out in the heart of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in which, on the occasion of a side event on Green Growth in Basin Management Plans, the Portuguese Environment Agency and CHMS jointly presented the experience of transboundary cooperation and coordination in the management of the shared rivers Miño and Limia.

After the successful permanent exchange of experience between the ARH OF THE NORTH and the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation and, in compliance with the Water Framework Directive, work and projects will be resumed to jointly prepare the new generation of the Miño-Limia International Hydrographic Demarcation Management Plan for the period 2015-2021.
