Basin analysis

Analysis of the Miño and Limia river basins at a geographical and hydrological level

The project contributes to a better understanding of the International River Basin Demarcation of the Miño and Limia river basins, in accordance with the principle of basin unity and with the provisions of Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2000 establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy, in relation to international river basin districts and single hydrological plans.

In order to obtain a better knowledge of the hydrographic demarcation, a series of actions are being carried out, developing a new cartography of the demarcation (refining the optics from the scale 1:25 to 1.10.000) and then carrying out an analysis of the water resources of the basin and its future estimate at 2070-2100 considering climate change.

  • New mapping of the international demarcation at a scale of 1:10,000

This new cartography allows to improve the detail of the basic network of the Hydrographic Demarcation, with a tuning of the optics to 1.10.000.

  • New inventory of water resources considering climate change in three scenarios: 2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2070-2100

A new inventory of water resources of the district that takes into account the effect of climate change in the Spanish and Portuguese parts of the district, considering the effect of the alterations in the definition of the different components that determine the water balance of the basin.
