25 Nov At the Workshop organized by the RISC_ML project, experts in water resources management analyzed possible responses to climate change
Under the title “WATER RESOURCES IN THE FACE OF CLIMATE CHANGE – EXTREME PHENOMENA” the CHMS explained the results achieved by the RISC_ML project after its 4 years.
During the working day, held by telematic means, the main actions that have been implemented were presented, including the following:
- The assessment of the impact of climate change on the water resources of the Spanish and Portuguese parts of the Miño and Limia river basins, explained by CEDEX experts.
- Advances in the MIDAS tool, a flood early warning system capable of predicting (in real time) flood zones and their associated danger, presented by the Universidade de Vigo.
- Rainfall records, as well as scarcity and drought indicators, through FEUP input.
- Monitoring stations, characteristics and performance, installed by both CHMS and APA-ARH North.
At the end of the presentations, made by each of the partners and collaborators in the project, a round of debate was held to address various issues related to the sustainability of the actions developed and their impact on the International Hydrographic Demarcation.
All participants agreed on the need to address extreme phenomena under a collaborative approach both at the transboundary level and through the exchange of information and collaboration between basin organizations, universities and organizations or entities with expertise in the field.
